The book and gift store at Spirit in the Desert is relatively new and has met with tremendous approval! Ministry is our "heart" at Spirit in the Desert and many of the products in our store flow from the heart of ministry. Here is a short list to wet your appetite...
- A timely collection of books ranging from spirituality, to the desert, to children (for children), to theology...and more. Speakers and presenters at retreats often want their participants to have access to certain items so we work at making those volumes available. Many books are suitable for gifts.
- Fair Market Exchange items. This program is a global outreach to those in abject proverty. It is a hand-up as it teaches basic life skills and trades-helping them to be self-sustaining-it changes lives! We stock beautiful hand-carved wooden crafts, luscious chocolates, teas, and a variety of gifts for every age. Some of our favorite features are items from People of Hope-El Salvador and orphanages in Peru. We keep Christmas stock year round.
- Children's Corner: we have crafts, learning tools and gifts "made by kids for kids" along with a wonderful selection of age-appropriate books.
- Native American crafts. We have a variety that is always changing and are privileged to feature Navajo pottery and artwork from our ministry partners on the Navajo nation here in Arizona.
- Hand-Crafted Soaps from Essential Oils: we have just partnered with 'JustbbJust' a local non-profit that produces natural soap products created by clean and sober men and women who are homeless, in transitional living environments, or those having homes. The beauty of B is the unity of these communities coming together to learn, collaborate, and build meaningful relationships that show there is no “Us and Them”...there is only “We!”
- Jewelry With A Ministry. When you purchase jewelry from our store, you are supporting a variety of charities in the U.S. and globally. Our pewter labyrinth items come from a company that anually teaches 10-12 at-risk young men a trade and educates them. There is a mission behind every piece of jewelry we have!
- Greeting Cards and Journals. We make our own personal journals giving you yet another way to remember your Spirit experience. Our greeting cards are the creativity of local & friends of Spirit artists and photographers.
- Music CD's. We have a variety of local musicians' recordings: acoustic blends, harp, flute, meditative, spiritual...enhance your experience here and at home.
- We also have a nice collection of Spirit in the Desert shirts, hats, visors, mugs, stainless steel water bottles, tote bags, and unique artwork from local artists.
You will notice a beautiful stained glass window in our store. This room used to be a small chapel. The window reflects the almost daily Arizona sun highlighting our store with colors and dramatic light. We like to think of this as a "blessing of light" --blessing the hands that made so many of the items and the hearts that support their ministry by their purchase of those items. Thank You!
